Preventing Alarm Fatigue
Seall ECDIS has been developed to the latest 61174 Edition 4.0 standards and as such its operation and handling of alarms is governed by the associated standards. That said we are often contacted by our customers with this exact question and many of the times alarm fatigue occurs whilst at anchor or working in built up areas. There is no way to mute the alarms system in these scenarios as this falls against the standards, however you can reduce your look ahead on the monitoring page in order to prevent alarms being raised. The value can be reduced to 0.

Is the system easy to install?
Installing and setting up SEALL solutions is a fast and simple process. The system automatically detects any sensors that it is connected to, including motion, positioning,
and heading devices, AIS and ARPA, and automatically sets up the monitoring functions. We had an aim to build solutions for the maritime industry that are simple to setup, simple to use and simple to train on. We've been told on repeat that we have met this criteria.

Are there any other key features of SEALL KERNEL?
Our kernal provides the fastest and easiest chart import technology ever and provides the ability to plan a route which can then be validated against the loaded ENC. You can also opt to add-on to the base package with additional data service layers, integration with sensor inputs, automatic route optimisation (A to B) and weather route optimisation.
ENC KERNEL SDK
What technology is SEALL KERNEL built with?
The Kernal is built in c# .Net with WPF front end components.
ENC KERNEL SDK
Can SEALL KERNEL integrate with other systems?
Yes, Seall Kernal is a c# sdk built as a few dynamic link libraries that can be references within your own software. The solution has been integrated into some of the leading maritime software brands for a number of years and therefore tried and tested. Better than that, if you wish our consultancy service can also help with any integration you may want to do.

What chart data imports does SEALL support?
SEALL Kernel supports the import of AVCS, PRIMAR and NOAA chart data

Which requirements does SEALL KERNEL comply with?
SEALL KERNEL complies with the IMO, IHO, IEC requirements for type-approved bridge equipment. Our SEALL KERNEL is used in our fully type approved SEALL ECDIS.
ENC KERNEL SDK
What is SEALL KERNEL?
SEALL KERNEL is a software development kit for maritime applications. This solution allows the loading and display of a multitude of maritime chart formats as well as overlaying this with other vector information such as weather, piracy, mobile drilling rigs and more.
ENC KERNEL SDK
Does the SEALL ECDIS application have the ability to connect to autopilot?
No not for use as ECDIS. The latest regulations require full track control, so it no longer does. If running in ECS then we can output the APB string to an autopilot.
ECDIS
Can the ECDIS be connected to a printer?
Yes, however the ECDIS application itself has no means of printing directly to a printer but the pdf documents opened from the operating system could be printed via this method.

Why doesn’t SEALL ECDIS include xxx features?
Our mantra is simplicity. This means we do not duplicate functions that are mandatory on other instruments or best performed by back of bridge which is unregulated and can therefore adapt quicker.

Does SEALL have Radar image overlay interface?
Radar image overlay is really only useful as a gross error check for the GNSS sensor. On the down-side it clutters the display and requires a special hardware interface to the radar which requires configuration. This is an unnecessary expense with little benefit. We already display the quality indicator of the GNSS sensor in order to check the quality of the position solution and we do overlay the target information from the Radar without the extra screen clutter.
ECDIS
Does SEALL ECDIS include collision avoidance functions?
No. Collision avoidance is best left to ARPA. This requires use of relative motion which is unnatural on an ECDIS system which should be in true motion.

Why Windows, isn’t it prone to virus attacks?
Every system is prone to attack. You hear more about Windows attacks because there are far more systems using this operating system as part of a less secure infrastructure. The best defence is corporate IT policy and this is easier to manage if it is a single OS. If you have more than 1 OS on your network then your defence policy has to be more complicated.
ECDIS
What Instruments can SEALL ECDIS connect to?
The NMEA 0183 standard has been in place since around the 1980s. Sensors built since then will utilise this protocol through serial interfaces. We read older sentences such as GGA and GLL for GNSS as well as newer sentences such as GNS and INS. We can also connect to and automatically route a multiplexed channel.
No items found.
What type / make and sizes of display are you offering?
We offer Hatteland 24” touch panel displays as this is the most common size requested and have never been asked for other sizes previously.
ECDIS
Do you provide consoles?
We have 4 means of installing our SEALL ECDIS
a) It can be mounted into existing console.
b) It can be mounted by feet onto the top of chart table.
c) We fabricate traditional console designs and will share the drawings so you can fabricate yourself.
d) We have a unique slim console design which we can fabricate or are also happy to issue drawings so you can fabricate locally.

What are the IMO Regulations regarding ECDIS?
In June 2009, the IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee approved new regulations making the carriage of ECDIS mandatory. The resulting amendments to SOLAS Chapter V regulation 19.2 require ships engaged on international voyages to be fitted with ECDIS. The regulations was implemented between July 2012 and July 2018 and it is therefor applicable that any SOLAS vessel of 500 gross tonnes or greater must be fitted with ECDIS as the primary means of navigation.
ECDIS
What is an ENC?
ENC stands for Electronic Navigation Chart which is a vectorised file containing official chart data as provided by a chart provider such as the Admiralty, Primar or NOAA. Seall ECDIS can work with ENC's from any of the aforementioned chart providers.

Can you explain to me what a SENC is?
SENC stands for System Electronic Navigational Chart and represents the format in which an ECDIS system converts the standard ENC data, this is so it can be represented on screen optimally. SENC data will likely differ between different ECDIS systems depending on whether they have implemented the Kernal themselves or used one such as SEALL Kernal which has now been implemented over 29,000 times.

What is RCDS and do i need it?
RCDS stands for Raster Chart Display System. A vessel may be permitted to sail in RCDS mode if no ENCs are available for the geographical area. These are becoming more seldom as time allows. In order to confirm with Flag state, vessels must also carry paper charts for these areas and when sailing in such areas the paper charts will become the primary means of navigation and ECDIS is simply an aid to navigation until such time as ENC's are available again.
ECDIS
How can I manage updates to my digital charts?
Chart updates for ECDIS can be done in a multitude of ways by DVD as issued by the Admiralty, e-mail or online. We understand the complexity of managing chart folios the changes to chart folios, we work with many of the best-known chart agents globally and we also have a solution to update enc's which includes passage planning and integration with our ECDIS.

What training is required for ECDIS?
The answer to this question comes in two parts: 1. Bridge officers / OOW should receive flag state-approved general ECDIS training that follows the IMO Model Course 1.27 (40 hours) to satisfy the IMO Standards for Training Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW). 2. In addition to this, manufacturer-specific familiarisation training needs to be carried out according to the IMO’s International Safety Management (ISM) Code. This is the responsibility of the Vessel owner however we offer a free downloadable training course which you can use to familiarise your crew.
